Tool & Die Maintenance Technician - 2nd ShiftLocation: Dearborn, MI 
Shift: 2nd Shift
Pay: $28.00 to $35.00 per hour, based on experience
Status: Full Time | Union Environment
Our recruiting team is partnering with a well established steel manufacturing organization seeking an experienced Tool & Die Maintenance Technician for a 2nd shift opportunity. This position is responsible for maintaining, repairing, troubleshooting, and modifying production dies and tooling in a high volume manufacturing environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with strong Tool & Die, welding, machining, fabrication, and mechanical troubleshooting experience who enjoy hands on work and solving complex manufacturing challenges.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform Tool & Die maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Perform welding, grinding, fabrication, machining, and fitting of tooling and die components.
  • Operate overhead cranes and powered industrial equipment safely and effectively.
  • Set up and operate manual machine tools including lathes, milling machines, grinders, and shapers.
  • Perform die modifications to improve quality, dimensional accuracy, and production efficiency.
  • Diagnose tooling failures and perform emergency repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Verify dimensions, alignments, tolerances, and clearances using precision measuring instruments.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, tooling drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs and communicate work completed, issues identified, and progress updates.
  • Follow all safety procedures including Lockout Tagout (LOTO) requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and work collaboratively with production and maintenance teams.
  • Adhere to ISO 14001 and IATF 16949 quality standards and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Experience building, repairing, or maintaining high volume stamping dies, casting dies, or similar tooling.
  • Strong welding, machining, fabrication, and mechanical repair skills.
  • Experience in industrial manufacturing, heavy industry, steel processing, automotive manufacturing, or military maintenance environments.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical systems.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Strong shop math and problem solving abilities.
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment including calipers, micrometers, indicators, and gauges.
  • High School Diploma or GED required. Technical training or trade school education is preferred.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong attendance record and commitment to safety.
Preferred Experience
  • Tool & Die Journeyman Card or equivalent experience.
  • Union manufacturing experience.
  • Experience supporting automotive or heavy manufacturing operations.
  • Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Crane operation experience.
  • Forklift or powered industrial truck certification.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work in an active manufacturing environment throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50+ pounds.
  • Ability to wear required PPE and work safely around manufacturing equipment.
Additional Information
  • Full time opportunity with overtime available.
  • Weekend work may be required based on production demands.
  • Occasional travel to other manufacturing facilities may be required 1 to 2 times per year.
