Test and Calibration Technician
Location: Midland, MI
Department: Production and Testing
Status: Contract, 3-6 months but subject to change based on clients needs, Hourly, Non-exempt
Pay Rate: $24-$27 per hour (may be open to discussion)
Qualified Professional and Technical has been engaged by our client to assist in identifying an experienced Test and Calibration Technician. This is a hands-on contract opportunity within a precision manufacturing environment, ideal for a candidate who enjoys technical problem-solving, instrument testing, and ensuring product quality through accurate calibration and certification. About the RoleThe Instrument Testing Technician is responsible for performing advanced testing, calibration, and quality control on specialized instruments used for lubricant analysis. The role requires mechanical and electrical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to follow established test procedures. This position collaborates closely with production and quality teams to ensure instruments meet performance standards prior to shipment. Key Responsibilities
Manage incoming and outgoing instruments within the quality control database
Conduct wiring verification and provide configuration updates for instrumentation
Configure computers and software for instrument operation
Evaluate instrument functionality and interpret test results using pass/fail criteria
Troubleshoot and resolve certification or performance concerns
Prepare certification and testing documentation for final quality review
Perform component and system functional testing for customer orders
Maintain organization and cleanliness of the testing laboratory, ensuring safe practices
Inspect incoming and outgoing instruments, parts, and components
Support process improvement and work instruction updates
Assist with calibration and testing of reference oils and new instrumentation
Train new employees and assist with technical support when needed
Participate in cross-training across production processes
Qualifications
Education: Associate degree in electrical, mechanical, electronics, computer science, or related field preferred
Experience: Minimum of three years in a technical or quality environment with strong mechanical background; one year in a laboratory environment preferred
Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems
Experience with tools, soldering, brazing, and small mechanical assembly
Ability to read mechanical drawings and follow detailed work instructions
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent attention to detail and documentation accuracy
Proficient with hand and power tools
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks safely
Additional Information
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week (overtime may be required based on production needs)
Travel: None required
Environment: Clean, organized, and safety-driven testing laboratory and production area
