Job title:Slitter Operator

Reports to (Title): Shift Supervisor

1. Job Overview

The slitter operator position is responsible for the setting up, slitting, packing and wrapping of finished products, in accordance with client packing specifications. The operator is also responsible for the movement of materials within the department and for storing or staging materials in designated areas.

2. Job Dimensions
  • Follow work schedule
  • Keep team informed of schedule and schedule changes
  • Print all documentation as associated with job.
  • Setting knife shaft for design changes.
  • Testing of dimensional characteristics as defined.
  • Prep and pack all finished goods associated with job.
  • Customer sampling program must be followed as needed.
  • Measurement and confirmation of measurements for dimensional characteristics.
  • Entries into shop floor data system to keep track of time and materials.
  • Stage and stock packing materials.
  • Follow all safety rules

3. Principal Accountabilities
  • Make sure all work order information is accurate before production.
  • Use of PPE and only client provided tools.
  • Participates in scheduled cleaning on machine and in department.
  • Actively involved in client project teams or other improvement events.
  • Attend meetings to further better the Wets department.
  • Responsible for directing assistant’s job duties within the shift.
  • Support Team Lead with information to be used for Slitting
  • Communicates with other departments to improve bottlenecks and streaming processes.
  • Makes safety the number one priority.

4. Major challenges & complexities
  • Exposed to regulated hazardous and flammable chemicals.
  • Requires physical strain such as lifting, walking and standing for long periods of times in the production facility.
  • Occasional lifting of cores and shafts.
  • Other physical demands require crouching, reaching and climbing of ladders.
  • Use of new technical equipment for quality checks.

6. Qualifications/Requirements

6.1 Formal Qualifications and Experience

Knowledge and Experience
  • 1 year in Manufacturing and Production.

Education and Certifications
  •  High School Diploma or equivalent.

6.2 Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Behaviours

Job Specific skills andabilities 
  • Organizational skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Excellent interpersonal and communicating skills.
  • Mechanically Inclined.
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Lift up to and including 45 lbs.
