Job Description

Job Title: Sewing Machine OperatorSummary: A sewing machine operator, also known as a stitcher or machinist, uses sewing machines to join, reinforce, decorate, or perform other sewing operations on materials. Their responsibilities include: 

  • Operating machines: Starting, tending, and monitoring sewing machines to join, reinforce, or decorate materials 

  • Adjusting machines: Turning knobs, screws, and dials to adjust machine settings based on the garment style and equipment performance 

  • Preparing materials: Positioning materials in clamps, templates, or hoop frames, and marking patterns on materials 

  • Performing specialized functions: Using machines to perform specialized functions like buttonhole making or tacking 

    • Maintaining equipment: Replacing needles, sanding rough areas of needles, cleaning, and oiling machines 

    • Repairing garments: Examining garments and repairing them during the manufacturing process 

    • Recording quantities: Recording the quantities of materials processed 

    • Completing reports: Completing production reports
