This is a full-time temporary position, Monday-Friday, daytime hours


The Lab Assistant will prepare, label and document preparation of reagents and media according to current procedures


Lab Assistant Duties as follows:

- Collect, clean and store laboratory glassware and other supplies in designated areas

- Maintain assigned work areas including reagent/media prep, glassware washing and storage areas in a neat, orderly condition. Clean other laboratory areas as assigned

- Using prescribed laboratory procedures, prepare various buffers, media, and reagents for use in the analytical and/or microbiological laboratories

- Maintain and calibrate equipment and instrumentation including pH meters, balances and glassware washers according to current procedures

- Register all lab supplies received on packaging slips and order spreadsheets. Copy and maintain receiving records, forwarding original completed paperwork to Staff Assistant/Finance

- Package outgoing samples, complete shipping paperwork and keep organized records

- Prepare media for culture growth and microbiological testing, including cleaning and preparing culture flasks and Prepare Fernbach flask and inoculation pot assemblies as needed

- Autoclave lab waste including Fernbach flask accessories, discard agar plates

- Follow all laboratory safety rules and good housekeeping practices and perform job duties in a manner that supports site Quality, Safety and Environmental Policies and regulations

- Utilize good communication skills to support daily work activities and project related assignments

Seeking a currently enrolled college student with a Science major and 2 science relevant classes completed, or Associate of Science degree and/or college-level course in related Science or High School Diploma with relevant work experience in an industrial laboratory. Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of basic chemistry, including pH and reagent preparation calculations. 

Possesses manual dexterity and visual acuity necessary to perform duties as outlined

Ability to lift up to 50lbs; routinely lifting 10-20lbs throughout the day

Physical requirements also include bending, reaching, twisting and stooping

Must be medically cleared to wear a respirator while working in laboratory
