EXPERIENCE OR TRAINING REQUIRED OR PREFERRED
Blueprint reading, use of all department inspection equipment, tool changes, offset changes, boring bars, and indicators. Ability to read and write NC Code. Recovery process for E-Stop and/or machine crash conditions. Associates degree in Computer Integrated Machining or equivalent required or a minimum of 2 years’ experience as a setup technician for CNC machines (preferably machining metal).

CNC MACHINE SETUP TECHNICIAN
SUMMARY

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Analyze mechanical and operational problems on assigned CNC equipment, plan for and take corrective action
- Make necessary corrections and running adjustments to maintain required quality and maximum production
- Measuring product for quality specifications, using inspection gauges and instruments
- Check product for visual defects
- Guiding shift and use leadership skills to train or counsel individuals
- Repair fixtures, hydraulics, drill heads, gears, bearings, bushings, and general department maintenance
- Replace all department drills, endmills, taps, boring bars, and face mills
- Basic CNC Programming
- Run production as needed
- Such other duties as are assigned from time-to-time
JOB EXPECTATIONS
- Uses extreme caution and observe all safe machining practices on 1st piece production parts to ensure clearance of tooling and machine parts
- Handle all gaging, inspection equipment, and hand tools with proper care and have full understanding of their use
- Obtains First Article approval through the quality process
- Operate and completely understand all machine controls and functions
- Responsible for machine adjustments to ensure products are manufactured to required specs
- Periodic inspection and replacement of tooling
- Responsible for all in process quality checks and other job related paperwork
- Monitor cycle times and tooling and work with management to strive for continuous improvement
- Maintains knowledge of tooling and fixtures used in CNC machining
- Adhere to quality and safety standards
- Assist Maintenance in maintaining shop equipment and ensure it is in full working order
- Setup machines to complete full cycles to fabricate large number of parts
- Prepare a test run to check if the machines produce outputs according to specifications
- Adjust programs and tool offsets as needed to maintain part quality
- Work safety to prevent injuries and follow all safety guidelines
- Sets-up CNC mills and lathes
- Based on required specifications, effectively operate assigned machinery to transform material into a quality product
- Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data
- Inspect all incoming and outgoing parts to and from your workstation and validate all finished parts meet the customers prints dimensionally
- Continuous standing
- Manufactures all equipment on his or her own including prototype equipment with minimal supervision and/or engineering assistance
- Understanding of manufacturing process and interaction with other departments
- Complete all paperwork and spread sheets as required
- Perform startup checks per the SOP
