Job Description
Responsible for the accurate processing of payrolls and garnishments for assigned business units. Responsibilities The Payroll/Garnishment Representative has the overall responsibility to deliver the following:
Demonstrates knowledge and support for the GD ethos, Shared Resources’, standards, policies and procedures, confidentiality standards, and code of ethical behavior.
Maintains a positive and professional work environment by fostering an environment of continuous improvement, creative thinking, and best practices. Responsible for suggesting methods to improve area operations, efficiency, and service to both internal and external customers.
Establishes and documents work procedures that support company and departmental standards, processes, and strategic directives.
Garnishment and wage assignments, wage verifications, scanning of all garnishments, and answering calls. Sets-up, maintains, and terminates garnishments in the payroll system for all business units in a timely manner.
Verifies accuracy of garnishments on all weekly and bi-weekly payrolls.
Resolves and communicates garnishment issues with both employees and courts/agencies.
Balances garnishments report between Payroll and Accounts Payable.
Works closely with legal department to answer garnishment related questions.
Assists with establishing garnishment for new implementations.
Understands and processes a variety of payroll earnings, deductions, taxes, benefits, union dues and other related deductions.
Processes payroll and special payouts according to process sheets designed and written for each assigned company.
Completes all documentation of payroll processing, to include scanning of each payroll’s documents and processing sheets. Also scans into SharePoint the completed Tax and Direct Deposit forms.
Performs other job functions such as:
Prepare balance adjustments for taxes; earnings and benefit deductions.
Daily Maintenance, to include entry of tax forms for Federal, State & Local
Checks co-workers data entries for accuracy
Runs queries to assist in payroll processing.
Analyzes variances to resolve any existing issues, contacting the business unit representatives when appropriate.
Communicates to business unit representatives as needed to keep them apprised of pertinent information, such as payroll processing deadlines, balancing of payrolls, follow up on issues.
Notifies accounting and tax representatives when payroll codes do not feed into the General Ledger appropriately.
Keys payroll related data as applicable to process and meet pay schedules. 1 9/4/2024 Job Description Payroll Representative
Processes both on-cycle payroll processing as well as off-cycle processing.
Supports Year End processes by problems.
Works closely with Supervisors on payroll process improvement projects.
Ability to work late nights on Monday and Tuesday as required, as well as some weekends due to holidays. Ability to be flexible with weekly schedule to support off-hours payroll processing.
All Other duties as assigned.
Professional Qualifications Required:
High school graduate or equivalent.
Ability to understand payroll concepts.
Ability to understand and apply the laws and limitations for garnishments, child support, and wage assignments in a multi-state environment.
Detail oriented with excellent organizational, analytical and communication skills.
Strong customer service skills.
Ability to prioritize and meet strict deadlines.
Microsoft office proficiency, specifically Microsoft Word and Excel.
Preferred:
One to three years of basic payroll processing experience.
Secondary course work in Accounting, Business or another related field desired.
