Job Description

ParalegalRaleigh, NCTemp to Perm9:00 am - 5:00 pmMonday - FridayHiring Range:  $52,000 - $65,000 ($25 -$31.25/hr) DOE
Essential Job Responsibilities:
  1. Take initiative to learn and understand the disciplinary process of the N.C State Bar and self-regulation
  2. Develop an understanding and knowledge of the Rules of Professional Conduct
  3. Knowledge of court system and procedures, legal terminology, and civil procedure 
  4. Read, analyze, and summarize grievances and responses 
  5. Draft reports of counsel
  6. Maintain electronic grievance files for assigned deputy counsel; keep files organized and updated
  7. Maintain status of grievances in case management software
  8. Prepare subpoenas and communicate with witnesses
  9. Assist deputy counsel(s) to prepare for depositions and hearings by organizing case files, performing research, and gathering and organizing all evidence and materials to prepare exhibits
  10. Assist deputy counsel(s) in drafting complaints and other pleadings to be filed with the Disciplinary Hearing Commission or other governmental agencies  
  11. Assist with administrative tasks and communications to include corresponding with lawyers, defendants, complainants, witnesses, and various court personnel including court reporters
 Non-Essential Job Responsibilities:
  1. Legal research on WestLaw and the Administrative Office of the Courts – Criminal and Civil websites
  2. Assist with research projects
  3. Any other tasks as assigned
 Desired Education, Experience and Skills:
  1. Associate’s degree; Bachelor’s degree preferred 
  2. Litigation paralegal experience preferred; paralegal certificate desired
  3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  4. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills along with excellent proofreading and formatting skills
  5. Desire to work as part of a team
  6. Ability to review many types of written material and summarize key information accurately and efficiently
  7. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, work well under deadlines, and multi-task
  8. Strong analytic skills
  9. Strong time management and organizational skills 
 Working Conditions:
  1. Position is non-exempt in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act
  2. Hybrid schedule possible after completion of initial probationary period
  3. Hours: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday, one hour lunch break
  4. Overtime: occasional, required most often during trials, paid or compensatory
  5. Travel: Seldom
