JOB SUMMARY:Our client is looking for a Packaging Engineering Manager to join their dynamic team and work out of their facility located in Troy, MI. This role is critical in ensuring that our packaging solutions meet the stringent requirements of the defense industry, specifically aligned with MIL-STD-2073-1E standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong managerial skills and extensive experience in packaging engineering, along with a deep understanding of the unique challenges in defense packaging.
If you have at least 10 years of experience in Packaging Engineering, and have a Bachelors Degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field, we are interested in reviewing your qualifications! 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Lead and manage a team of packaging engineers and transportability analysts to define and develop comprehensive packaging data and transportability requirements for various defense-related items.
  • Oversee the design and development of packaging solutions in compliance with MIL-STD-2073-1E and other relevant standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, quality assurance, and supply chain to ensure packaging specifications align with engineering drawings and product requirements.
  • Establish and implement best practices for packaging design, prototyping, testing, validation and production.
  • Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets to ensure successful completion of packaging projects.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to team members, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct regular reviews and assessments of packaging processes and strategies, identifying areas for enhancement.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for packaging-related inquiries and issues within the organization.
  • Develop and deliver various packaging reports to our US Government customer.
 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • 10 years of experience in packaging engineering
  • 5+ years in a lead/managerial/supervisory role within the defense industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of MIL-STD-2073-1E and its application in packaging design and development.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Expert understanding of Information Technologies and Analytics design.
  • Familiarity with the defense industry use of data in decision making.
  • Familiarity with Engineering and Product Support activities.
  • Experience in developing Military Special Packaging Instructions (SPIs)
  • In-Depth knowledge of ASTM D 4169 Standard Practice for Performance Testing of Shipping Containers and Systems
  • Proven track record of managing complex packaging projects from concept to production.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and mentor team members.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
  • Familiarity with packaging materials, testing methods, and regulatory requirements specific to defense applications.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s degree in Packaging Engineering
  • Certified Scrum Master
