MATERIAL SPECIALISTContractTroy, MI/Rochester Hills$20/hr. The Material Specialist is responsible for, but not limited to, the paperwork required for all inbound/outbound loads. Liaison with the customers as needed to ensure timely scheduling of customer shipping requirements. Responsible for the scheduling as well as coordination of all outbound shipments adhering to plant standards. Responsible for picking, sequencing, and moving production parts within the plant; and ensures production line has the correct parts for production in a timely manner. Performs cycle counting to verify the accuracy of inventory records to the actual on-hand inventory. Coordinates and oversees the monthly inventory to ensure the accuracy of the perpetual inventory and the month-end close. Maintains the cycle-counting processes and procedures. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
In SAP, create and manage assigned parts and their respective suppliers from cradle to grave.
Issue Releases to supply base and monitor on time delivery, while managing external stakeholder relations.
Analyze MRP weekly / daily, monitoring inventory levels in accordance with Customer demand and PFEP parameters.
Complete SAP Health checks, as required.
Assist in maintaining job related work instruction & forms in company document control software.
Monitoring and managing inventory levels: This involves tracking inventory levels, analyzing demand patterns, and identifying any discrepancies or shortages.
Forecasting and planning: An inventory analyst uses historical data and demand forecasting techniques to project future inventory needs. They develop inventory strategies to optimize stock levels and minimize inventory carrying costs.
Analyzing inventory data: This includes analyzing inventory turnover, aging, and other performance metrics to identify opportunities for improvement, such as reducing excess inventory or implementing just-in-time (JIT) inventory practices.
Conducting inventory audits: Inventory analysts perform regular audits to ensure accuracy of inventory records and identify any variances between actual physical inventory and reported inventory levels. They may also assist with inventory replenishment and cycle counting activities.
Collaborating with cross-functional teams: Inventory analysts work closely with other departments such as procurement, sales, and production to ensure alignment in inventory planning and execution. They also collaborate with suppliers to maintain accurate inventory records.
Managing incoming and outgoing shipments: This involves coordinating and scheduling shipments, ensuring proper packaging and documentation, and accurately recording shipment details.
Coordinate transportation of production material from suppliers as needed in support of established production requirements, minimizing the cost of freight for assigned suppliers.
Oversees the day-to-day operations of the shipping and receiving department, including assigning tasks to personnel, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, and resolving any issues or delays that may arise.

Coordinating with carriers and suppliers: The shipping and receiving coordinator communicates with carriers and suppliers to coordinate transportation logistics, resolve delivery issues, and ensure timely and accurate delivery of goods. They may also negotiate freight rates and manage relationships with shipping partners.
Managing paperwork and documentation: The coordinator is responsible for verifying shipping/receiving documentation, such as bills of lading, invoices, and customs documents. They ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and maintain organized records for auditing purposes.
Receiving and inspecting incoming materials: Material handlers receive and inspect incoming shipments to ensure accuracy and quality. They compare received items against purchase orders and packing slips, report any discrepancies or damages, and ensure proper storage or distribution of the materials.
Storing and organizing materials: Material handlers are responsible for storing materials in designated locations, ensuring proper labeling and identification. They organize inventory to maximize space efficiency and facilitate easy retrieval.
Retrieving and distributing materials: Material handlers fulfill requests for materials from different departments or workstations within the organization. They ensure timely delivery and proper documentation of materials to the requested areas.
Operating material handling equipment: Material handlers operate various equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, or hoists to move materials within the facility. They ensure safe operation of equipment, maintain equipment maintenance logs, and report any malfunctions or safety hazards.
Following safety protocols: Material handlers adhere to safety guidelines and procedures to prevent accidents or injuries during material handling activities. They use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and report any safety concerns to supervisors.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Basic: Grade 12 education and at least 3 years of Materials experience in an automotive JIT environment.
Preferred: Previous supervisory experience, strong computer skills, post-secondary education and a valid lift truck license. SAP experience an asset.
Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills. Working knowledge of continuous improvement processes/lean manufacturing concepts, methods, and principles.
Demonstrated computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office Applications: Word, Excel, etc.).
Good working knowledge of core tools and customer specific requirements or can learn these requirements within the specified time frame.
Good knowledge of Health & Safety Legislation and proficiency with Microsoft and other manufacturing related software.
