Material Handler
Our client has seven large distribution centers throughout the upper Midwest and Southeast that sell lumber and building materials to independent retail dealers, national pro-dealer chains, mass merchants and one-step-distributors. In terms of product mix, we specialize on just about any building material that makes up the structural frame and/or exterior envelope of a residential or commercial building. Location: Comstock Park
Wage: $18 - $20 depending on experience
Shift: First shift 7am - 5pm Monday - Friday
POSITION SUMMARY: Process and prepare custom and standard product orders of engineered wood and structural components for distribution to customers.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ability to utilize hand tools and power tools used to secure and prepare orders of building materials.
Ability to read paperwork including internal work orders, yard pick tickets and other details specifically detailed for customer orders.
Ability to read and use a tape measure to cut materials for assembling customer orders.
Maintain knowledge of products offered, materials, and operational processes.
Ensure product standards are met and monitor quality compared to standards.
Ability to calculate various units of measure for shipping building materials including calculations of board feet, linear feet, square feet, pieces, or various other units of measure used each day.
Properly pick and prepare orders to be staged for loading on a truck, and final delivery to dealers. Denote changes and order discrepancies for specific order lines or other details summarizing adjustment to quantities or make other fulfillment notes.
Ability to use warehouse management system and enterprise system inventory control tools used to verify stock availability and inventory accuracy.
Follow daily production schedule and adjust to changes in workload dictated by customer needs.
Ability to analyze customer orders and plan an efficient approach to fulfilling the order as a job pack or specific grouping of various products packed and palletized by customer.
Identify products and materials to be pulled from inventory, process material for fulfilling customized order lengths when appropriate, identify scrap or damage as discovered, and process good inventory waste to return to inventory.
Ability to account for product/material received to place in inventory upon receipt from material suppliers. Follow inventory control and receiving best practices. Be accountable for inventory accurately received when responsible for receiving on behalf of the company/location.
Load and unload train rail cars containing materials.
Sort, move and organize product departmentally while operating and using a variety of material handling equipment including a counter-balance forklift, side loading lift truck or other material handling equipment.
Comply to safety expectations set by company safety policies, OSHA, and industry trade best practices.
Perform all duties in a manner that supports a culture of teamwork and operational success.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor in the spirit of supporting the overall success of the work area, team, operational business unit, and company.
Perform other work-related duties as assigned by your supervisor and be flexible and adaptable to changes that will occur during employment.
EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE: (Listed below are certificates or licenses required; and/or any additional knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position).
Experience operating material handling equipment such as a counter-balance forklift.
Ability to work independently while supporting exceptional teamwork of a larger work group.
Ability to solve problems, persevere when challenged by excessing workload demands, outside working conditions, and working independently.
Strong ability to be self-motivated and flexible. Ability to work extra overtime hours as needed.
