Our client has engaged us in a search for a Harness Designer to join their team in Sterling Heights, MI. This role is responsible for the design, development, and integration of complex military combat vehicle electronic (vetronics) and power harness systems. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in harness design and development, along with an Associate degree in Product Design or a related field. Job Summary:
Responsible for the design, development and integration of complex military combat vehicle electronic (vetronics) and power harnesses systems.
Essential Functions:
Manage designs using CAD software per project requirements/specifications
Create and maintain 3-D and 2-D harness drawings
Foundation of CAD data management knowledge including Revision History, Engineering Change Requests, and Configuration Management etc.
Harness requirements routing requirements and limitations
Harness requirements analysis, derivation, decomposition and management activities
Research and analyze solutions to meet customer requirements
Perform trade studies to compare alternative approaches
Interact with internal/external customers and suppliers
Maintain harness open issues lists and Prepare/present status
Reverse engineering and design capabilities including dimensional stack-ups defining fit and function.
Troubleshoot design issues concerning manufacturing, quality, and system requirements on existing designs.
Working knowledge and application of ASME 2D drawing type standards (Y14.5-XXX)
Working knowledge and application of industry standard GD&T practices
Knowledge of standard harness accessories (back-shells, fasteners, etc.)
Support multidiscipline concurrent vehicle engineering activities
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (as demonstrated through experience, training and/or testing)
Knowledge of Systems based design and related Standards/Processes
Mechanical routing CAD design of Harnesses/’Tubes’ – PTC Creo experience is preferred
Harness design and related US DoD/military and commercial Standards
US DoD ground vehicle requirements, US DoD process and procedures for vehicle development and acquisition
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required to work effectively with the US and overseas management, staff, teams, suppliers, and customers
Must be able to communicate effectively and explain complex technical concepts and instructions in a variety of settings in a way that makes sense to someone less knowledgeable about the topic
Ability to engage with an enthusiasm to establish productive relationships, promote collaboration and facilitate teamwork to ensure all across the organization and its external service providers have the information and opportunity to perform to the best of their abilities
Superior consultation, diplomacy, influencing and negotiating skills is required
Must be tactful, diplomatic, and work with integrity, honesty, and respect for others
Must display exceptional listening and analytical skills in order to understand customer concerns and needs with the ability to respond promptly and effectively to those needs
Shall support and encourage performance by motivating individuals and teams to achieve high performance

Must be adaptable and able to prioritize and work on own initiative and under pressure to meet deadlines Education:
BSc Engineering desired (e.g. Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, …) or equivalent work experience Experience:
5 years of harness design and development experience
5+ years of experience or equivalent work experience with PTC Creo Parametric desired. Proficient use of other MCAD tools will also be considered (i.e. UG Nx, Solid Works, CATIA)
Experience in US Defense vehicle programs and Military Standards and regulations
Applied working knowledge in the domain of electrical harness engineering design and integration, with a proven track record of harness development throughout the entire product lifecycle
Practical ‘hands on’ attitude with the ability to operate independently
Experience of working in a multi-discipline, multi-national, multi-organizational and corporate environment
Experience with engineering and supply chain management in a highly regulated industry
Background Prerequisites:
Must undergo and meet company standards for background check, employment verification, reference checks and controlled substance testing.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to speak German desired
