FITTER/WELDER – 1st Shift
If you have a passion for welding and enjoy a small family atmosphere, this is the job for you! Our client is a full-service fabricator of customer metal products, and they are looking to add an experienced Fitter/Welder at their Almont facility. Successful candidates must possess MIG and TIG welding and blueprint experience. Work schedule is Monday thru Friday, 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM with some Saturday overtime from 6:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Salary range is $52,000 to $58,240 based on experience.

Job Summary: Responsible for welding using MIG and TIG on all metals including carbon steel, aluminum, and stainless steel.
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Lays out, fits and welds fabricated components to assemble structural forms according to blueprints.
• Must be able to read prints including 1st and 3rd angle.
• Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.
• Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications, using straightedge, combination square, calipers, and ruler.
• Bolts, clamps, and tack-welds parts to secure in position for welding.
• Melts lead bar, wire, or scrap to add lead to joint or to extrude melted scrap into reusable form
• Inspects grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometer, caliper, and precision measuring instruments
• Removes rough spots from workpiece, using portable grinder, hand file, or scraper.
• Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
• Check parts to ensure they are meeting the company’s standards before moving to the next department.
• Follow company, state, and federal safety regulations. This includes wearing proper protective equipment and keeping work area clean and well-organized.
• Contributes to team efforts by performing duties within the Welding Department and other Departments, as needed.
Required Skills/Abilities:
• Ability to read blueprints, including 1st and 3rd angle.
• Ability to efficiently decipher blueprints, build, weld and cleanup spatter and rough edges.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, documents, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Work with hands, lifting and moving large pieces of metal, standing for hours at a time.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Strong analytical skills to monitor work processes, inspect various types of metal, read, and interpret blueprints that contain precise measurements, and to make calculations necessary to cut metal to match specific designs.
• Excellent communication skills to work in a collaborative environment with other team members.
• Strong measuring skills working with multiple measuring tools to make precise measurements using metric and US measuring systems.
• Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
• Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment. Education and Experience: High School Diploma or Equivalent Required. Preferred minimum of 5-year related experience.
