ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY DIRECTOR
DIRECT HIRE
100-125K  DESCRIPTION:
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities within the guidelines of the company’s vision, mission, quality policy and environmental management statements
  • Duties and responsibilities are guided by well-defined, repeatable processes that are the key to meeting customer expectations and must be followed or changed as defined in company guidelines.
  • General responsibilities listed below describe the duties and responsibilities for continuous improvement:
    • Utilize procedures to prevent product, service, and process non-conformances
    • Identify and record any problems
    • Find solutions to problems through prescribed problem-solving methods
    • Effectively implement solutions for problems
    • Control the use of non-conforming product/service/process
    • Monitor and improve respective measurables
  • Ensure that environmental issues are managed according to legal requirements, the environmental policy, the environmental management system procedures and good management practices
  • Maintain an awareness of significant environmental impacts, actual or potential, of work activities.
  • Maintain an awareness of environmental benefits of improved environmental performance and continual improvement
  • Maintain an awareness of objectives and targets pertaining to work and the importance of achieving the objectives and targets
  • Understand both the Communication Procedure and the Emergency Preparedness and Response Procedure
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversight and development of the Environmental, Health and Safety department
  • Develop and monitor annual EHS and Community Contribution budgets
  • Provide global EHS leadership and guidance to corporate affiliates
  • Conduct research and discover methods to prevent, control and eliminate environmental, safety and hazardous material operational concerns
  • Interface with city and regulatory agencies, maintain related records and reports, and submit to appropriate agencies
  • Coordinate related training regarding all environmental, health & safety, DOT/IATA, and company procedures
  • Identify, mitigate, and manage the environmental, health & safety impact of all products, processes and projects
  • Report all safety issues to appropriate department managers
  • Apply for and maintain all regulatory permits
  • Inform Executive Management of progress and problems within related areas
  • Maintain confidentiality of environmental strategies
  • Primary Emergency Coordinator for the Hazardous Material Response Team
  • Approve waste transporters and disposal facilities 
  • Ensure that quality and environmental management system requirements are established, implemented and maintained in accordance ISO 9001 and 14001
  • Maintain ISO 14001 Environmental Management System compliance with efforts to continuously improve
  • Maintain the production system and act as final approval of all system documentation
  • Report to top management on the performance of the production system, and any need for improvement
  • May function as a liaison with external parties on matters relating to the production system
  • Attend conferences, training and seminars, to stay current on industry environmental issues
  • Attend related public meetings concerning facility operations
  • Maintain relationships with community partnerships
  • Perform variety of tasks often changing on short notice
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical or Environmental Engineering is required; Master’s degree strongly preferred
  • 7+ years of experience in environmental engineering, safety or chemical industry
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience
  • Expert Level EPA-DOT- NFTA- Eagle- HAZWOPPER- OSHA-  ISO 
  • Must know  Fed Regulations - Start to finish with process
  • Considerable knowledge in all laws and regulations pertaining to environmental, DOT/IATA, and health and safety issues is essential
  • Passion and capability to work with all levels of the organization including executive management, managers and hourly employees
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Independent and self-motivated worker
  • Able to work without close supervision
  • Occasional domestic and international travel required
