Process Piping BIM Designer
Locations: Phoenix AZ, Salt Lake City UT, or Boise ID
Work Modality: In office or hybrid 3 days per week
Type: 6 month contract to hire
Hourly Pay Rate: $48 to $60 per hour
Qualified Professional and Technical is supporting a respected engineering firm to identify a Senior Process Mechanical BIM Designer. This senior level role includes supervisory and management responsibilities and requires advanced skill in the detail design of water, wastewater, semiconductor, or datacenter facilities. The position requires advanced knowledge of 3D design concepts and related technology tools. Key Responsibilities
Develop piping system layouts in accordance with BIM requirements including spacing, fitting makeup, valve placement, and in line components in 3D and 2D formats using sketches, cut sheets, and P and ID documents
Generate fabrication isometric drawings from 3D models
Coordinate modeling and drawing production activities among all project disciplines
Provide clash detection reporting using Autodesk Navisworks or Bentley Navigator
Provide model interrogation reporting including quantities, part lists, and related data
Perform quality checks for drafted products and ensure conformance with CAD BIM standards and project specific requirements
Generate 2D drawing views from 3D models and prepare final contract drawings
Produce engineering documents and deliverables with minimal oversight
Provide basic CAD BIM technical support for junior staff
Convert design data between MicroStation and AutoCAD
Lead BIM Execution activities at the project level
Serve as the Project CAD BIM Lead and coordinate work across internal and external teams
Qualifications
Minimum of 10 years of engineering design experience
Bachelor degree or associate degree or GED
Required experience in wastewater, semiconductor, or datacenter projects with proven Intel project exposure
Strong team leadership experience with an ability to coordinate designers across multiple groups
Proven mentoring skills with the ability to support junior level staff. References from a previous mentee are a plus
Strong communication skills written and verbal
Detail oriented and organized with consistent follow up skills
Working knowledge of pipe standards including AWWA and ANSI B16
Advanced proficiency in 2D process mechanical design
Extensive understanding of 3D design concepts
Advanced knowledge of BIM for process mechanical design including piping, valves, in line components, and equipment
Strong understanding of structural design and how structural systems interface with process mechanical equipment
Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Revit MEP or Bentley OpenPlant Modeler
Proficiency in AutoCAD or MicroStation 2D and 3D
Ability to travel to office locations for onboarding and occasional in person meetings
