Position: Direct Hire Design / Product Engineer

Location: Brighton

Salary $90,000 - $105,000 a year based on experience level

Shift: Days

Job Description

This position will work out of our Brighton facility. The product engineer will work alongside the engineering manager with implementing production processes and new product development in automotive components. This position will be required to perform both 3D CAD designs and 2D drawings of heat exchangers and fluid routing products (tubing) utilizing SolidWorks. The candidate must be highly proficient in SolidWorks.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Design tube assemblies for fluid routing systems.
  • Design heat exchangers for a variety of vehicle applications.
  • Aide in the design or re-designing of tooling and gauging fixtures.
  • Working with a team in the development and design of new products, processes and for tubing and heat exchanger production.
  • Manage and support APQP process and timelines with customer and team for new launches and engineering changes.
  • Using CAD models to assure fit and function.
  • Provide technical support for all performance-related problems in the field as they relate to the manufacturing process.
  • Conduct tolerance stack-up of designed components and confirm manufacturing tolerances to meet customer needs in vehicle assembly environment.
  • Producing and implementing design and test procedures.
  • Testing, evaluating, modifying and re-testing products as well as completing DVP&R’s.
  • Continuous improvement, identify possible actions for improvements and ensuring their implementation.

Required Experience: 
  • Degree is preferred but not required.
  • Must have at least 5 years of experience in a Tier 1 or 2 automotive supplier environment.
  • MUST be proficient in SolidWorks and MS Office Suite.
  • Have a strong understanding of engineering principles, scientific analysis and project management.
  • Strong understanding of the APQP process.
  • Must have experiences with GD&T
  • Six sigma training and demonstrated practical application of lean methodologies.
  • PPAP and Core Tools experience. 

Additional Preferred but Not Required Experience:
  • Working knowledge of plastic injection molding equipment and design is helpful.
  • DVP&R experience is preferred. 
  • Additional hands-on production shop experience preferred.
  • Must be extremely organized and exhibit a high degree of attention to detail.
  • Team player who can work effectively in team environment.
  • Knowledge of tube bending and metal forming.
  • Use of Robotics and welding experience a plus.
  • Open atmospheric Brazing/ Furnace Brazing experience is preferred. 
  • Experience with vehicle cooling systems and fluid routing components.
  • Heat Exchanger design and functionality.
  • Stamping and metal forming.
