Controls Software Engineer
Job location: Farmington Hills
Job Type: Contract to Hire
Pay: $40-55/hr.
Schedule: 8a-5p
Description
The Controls Software Engineer will provide technical support for the design, development, and implementation of automated manufacturing systems. This inpidual will be responsible for the technical engineering components of the quote, design, build, and so that the project meets specifications and complies with customer expectations.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities
Shared responsibility with Controls Management for performance to budget and timing of the software project phase.
Coach, train, mentor and provide technical guidance to the controls engineering staff.
Serve as an interface between the software engineering team with both project management/engineering and the customer.
Be responsible for the completeness of software design prior to power on, ensuring reduced debug project phases.
Be responsible for effective handoff and template design of software to the Validation Team.
Support Manufacturing and Service at the Debug and Installation Startup Phase.
Aid the customer and improve customer satisfaction.
Understand, design, implement and support all software programming related to PLC, HMI, Vision, motion control, and robotic applications.
Competency
Requires 5+ years of experience in the field of automation controls for the automotive industry
Several years of software experience with Rockwell and/or Siemens PLC and HMI platforms, or related controls engineering role.
Experience interfacing with Fanuc and/or ABB robots, hands-on robotic programming and/or debug experience is preferred.
Motion Controls experience with different types of Servo Drives and Variable Frequency Drives.
Industrial Networks experience such as Ethernet I/P, Profibus, Profinet, Remote I/O.
Some plant floor experience required.
Experience interfacing with Cognex and/or Keyence vision systems, hands-on vision setup experience is preferred.
Organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, with strong verbal and written communication skills
Education, training and experience
Bachelor’s degree required in Electrical Engineering or similar field.
MS Office 2010 (Excel, Word, Outlook) and general computer literacy.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Must be a self-starter, team player, work well with others and have a positive attitude.
Must be a creative thinker, results oriented, focused, and attentive to detail and accuracy.
Must have ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines.
