Job Description

The Controls Hardware Project Engineer will provide technical support for the design, development, and implementation of automated manufacturing systems. This individual will be responsible for the technical engineering components of the quote, design, build, and so that the project meets specifications and complies with customer expectations. CHPE is responsible for controls Hardware projects from inception through delivery and installation and coordinates with other disciplines to ensure an integrated design meeting the project requirements. Main Tasks and Responsibilities
  1. Develop electrical design, schematics and drawings in AutoCAD and E-Plan.
  2. Monitor cost and commitment.
  3. Ensure adherence to quality standards.
  4. Participate and coordinate project progress review meetings.
  5. Assure hardware designs meet customer requirements and specifications.
  6. Meets requirements of all controls engineering budgets.
  7. Shared responsibility with Controls Management for performance to budget and timing of the control project phase.
  8. Serve as an interface between the Controls Engineering Team with both Project Management/Engineer and the customer.
  9. Responsible for the completeness of control design.
  10. Interpret mechanical design drawings for electrical requirements.
  11. Review supplier products for assembly components per specifications from customer.
  12. Help establish new and maintain existing standards.
  13. Develop electrical bill of materials.
  14. Provide support at the power up phase for electrical systems.
  15. Check quality of assemblers and technicians work and respond to inquiries during assembly.
  16. Work with Sales Engineers to provide input with quote preparation

  1. Requires 10+ years of experience in the field of automation controls for the automotive industry
  2. Several years of Hardware experience with Rockwell and/or Siemens PLC and HMI platforms, or
  3. related controls engineering role.
  4. AutoCAD and E-Plan electrical experience necessary.
  5. Familiarity with Industrial standards NEC, NFPA, UL, SCCR requirements, GCCH is a plus.
  6. Experience interfacing with Fanuc and/or ABB robots, hands-on robotic programming and/or debug
  7. experience is preferred.
  8. Motion Controls experience with different types of Servo Drives and Variable Frequency Drives.
  9. Industrial Networks experience such as Ethernet I/P, Profibus, Profinet, Remote I/O.
  10. Some plant floor experience required.
  11. Experience interfacing with Cognex and/or Keyence vision systems, hands-on vision setup
  12. experience is preferred.

  Supervisory Responsibilities Able to lead a team of Hardware Engineers locally and remotely on project specific tasks. Education, Training and Experience 
  1. Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.E.E.) from four-year College or university
  2. 10 years related experience and/or training
  3. Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  4. Expert knowledge in PLCs.
  5. Excellent computer skills (i.e., Lotus Notes, MS Office, ACAD, Windows).
  6. 3 to 5 years in an engineering leadership position.
  7. Understanding of Machine Design
 Language Skills
  1. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical
  2. procedures, or governmental regulations.
  3. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  4. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
 Mathematical Skills
  1. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  2. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  Reasoning Ability
  1. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  2. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variable
