Location: Clinton, TN Department: AnalyticalReports To: Director of Technology and Sustainability Job Purpose:Lead and develop the analytical team, serve as the main point of communication between the analytical lab and internal and external customers, equip the laboratory to meet customer and internal needs, develop the analytical team to use equipment, interpret and present results and coordinate work with other groups. Key Responsibilities:Safety Management
  • Complies with and enforces all company safety procedures and completes all safety training as required
  • Identifies and cultivates opportunities to improve working area conditions, comply with new standards and legal requirements, and works with maintenance and engineering on the implementation of new ideas.
  • Reports all safety related incidents and assists in the investigation of root causes and development of corrective actions.
  • Ensures team completes all safety and process training in a timely manner.
 Staff planning and development: 
  • Assists in developing long-term objectives, and annual goals for direct reports in line with assigned company objectives and goals.              
  • Assists in developing and maintaining training programs in-line with company objectives and goals.
  • Ensures effective performance management of direct reports. 
  • Provides input to upper management on long-term objectives and goals. 
  • Acts as a technical resource for staff and other groups.
  • Attends assigned training as required
  • Researches and attends online webinars and technical conferences for professional development of the analytical group
 Analytical management 
  • Assists in developing and maintaining long term plans for the analytical group to support company goals and to reach and stay world class.
  • Monitors and reports on-time delivery and turnaround time for analytical work orders
  • Ensures any work orders or complaints requiring analytical input are tested and reported in a timely manner
  • Monitors trends in work order entry including business unit, specialty requests, issues in data entry, due dates, causes of late work orders, performs root cause analysis for work order errors, and implements corrective actions to improve causes of late work orders and data entry/reporting. 
  • Proactively notifies internal groups of late work orders including date when work will be completed and reported
  • Ensures on-time delivery goals are met while maintaining accuracy and impartiality of results.
  • Maintains equipment including up-to-date calibrations.
  • Develops visual work instructions and method verifications.
  • Interprets and presents analytical results including reports as required.
  • Completes all assigned supervisor tasks by requested due dates
  • Ensures on-time delivery of sales orders products requiring analytical testing for release and proactively manages department schedule.
 ISO 17025 accreditation
  • Assists in maintaining ISO 17025 quality documentation and systems.
  • Assists in maintaining proficiency testing and investigates outliers.
  • Assists in maintaining correspondence and information to certifying body
  • Ensures standards, training records, equipment lists, and external document list is up-to-date and correct.
  • Ensures equipment is in calibration and backup equipment is on-hand for critical tests when possible, such as flow meters, micrometers, calipers, Bunsen burners, etc
  • Investigates complaints and implements corrective and preventive action.
  • Ensures preventative maintenance testing is completed and results are in-line with trends
  • Obtains customer satisfaction surveys and management reviews.
 Budget control 
  • Assisting in writing CAPEX approvals for new equipment          
 Polytest management
  • Ensure testing is performed in a timely manner and conducted as per quotes supplied to customers for both in and out of scope tests
 Miscellaneous 
  • Participates in company initiatives including safety, lean, and other as required
  • Other as required
 Skills/ Knowledge/ Ability: 
  • Experience in analytical testing
  • Experience in interpretation and presentation of data
  • Experience in team and employee development
  • Experience in Excel and Word 
  • Good oral and written communication skills 
  • At least 2 years’ experience in department and project management 
  • Ability to learn and incorporate new knowledge in technical development
  • Knowledge of analytical test methods
  • Knowledge of analytical equipment OEMs
  • Ability to learn and follow instructions
  • Ability to work independently
 Minimum Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or engineering and two or more years of experience in analytical testing and management.
