Job Description

 Technical Service Engineer Job Description 
 Job Purpose:To drive new development within the organization to meet customer needs and gross profit targets in a manner consistent with the Mission Principles and Values of our company.Key Responsibilities:Safety Management
  • Complies with and enforces all company safety procedures and completes all safety training as required
  • Identifies and cultivates opportunities to improve working area conditions and works with maintenance and engineering on the implementation of new ideas.
  • Reports all safety related incidents and assists in the investigation of root causes and development of corrective actions.
 Product Development
  • Monitors and drives assigned work orders to on-time completion 
  • Notifies management of roadblocks to completing work and assist in removing roadblocks as needed
  • 100% notification of late work orders to the work requestor prior to work order being late
  • Turns in raw material code paperwork and assist in raw material code generation
  • Enters formulations into ERP system based on work order, customer, and property requirements
  • Enters quality tests and parameters into ERP system based on formula, product, and customer requirements 
  • Researches new raw materials and takes part in vendor discussions for either off-sets of current materials or new raw materials 
  • Enters work orders as needed
  • Creates marketing literature and exhibits as requested
  • Generates costings upon request and with new developments and sends to internal requestors
  • Acts as the main point of contact for assigned work orders for the company
  • Develops go-to product lists for product recommendations for various use cases
  • Researches customer complaints and participates in root-cause analysis exercises to come to root-cause and implements corrective actions
  • Manages projects and timelines to meet customer expectations and documents project updates in project management software
  • Leads and participates in customer technical discussions
  • Participates in Kaizen events to optimize process, reduce and eliminate non-conformance and rework and reduce manufacturing costs. 
  • Assists Director of Technology and Sustainability on tasks as needed
 Training
  • Attend assigned training as required
  • Seek out and attend online webinars for technical development
  • Seek out and attend technical conferences as needed
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience in Excel and Word 
  • Good oral and written communication skills 
  • At least 1-5 years’ experience in product development
  • At least 1-5 years’ experience in project management 
  • Ability to learn and incorporate new knowledge in technical development
  • Knowledge of plastic testing analytical test methods
  • Ability to learn and follow instructions
  • Ability to interpret analytical data
  • Ability to work independently
Minimum Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or engineering or five or more years of experience in product development.Level Expectations:
  • Normal development and normal support work order management.
  • Able to work on at least 1-2 development projects at one time
  • Able to manage internal and external quality complaints including root cause and corrective action implementation.
  • Able to learn and follow quality management procedures
  • Participates in company initiatives, meetings, and safety programs as required
  • Participates in outside training and/or webinars to further develop technical knowledge
Level 2 Expectations:
  • All level 1expectations
  • Capable of working on at least 3-6 development projects at once
  • Capable of working on at least 1-3 R&D projects at one time
  • Ability to learn and give suggestions on resin and additive formulations
  • Attend and give input in customer meetings
  • Develop and maintain database of “go-to” products for assigned technical processes
  • Able to make basic technical decisions on release of materials
  • Able to understand analytical testing results
Level 3 Expectations:
  • All level 2
  • Capable of working on at least 6-8 development projects at once
  • Capable of working on at least 2-4 R&D projects at one time
  • Independent selection of raw materials
  • Participates in vendor discussions on new raw materials
  • Analytical knowledge and data interpretation skills to lead customer complaints
  • Technical lead in customer meetings
  • Able to look up, read, and write patents
  • Expert in at least one plastic extrusion process
  • Technical leader for the company in at least one key area
  • Able to interpret and explain analytical testing results
