General Responsibility: To operate or tend sewing machines to join, reinforce, decorate, cut and/or perform related sewing operations in the manufacture of marine related, non-garment products.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

Essential Functions

  • To join, reinforce, decorate, cut and perform related sewing operations on a daily basis to meet the quantity needs of demand
  • Monitor sewing machine operations to spot problems such as defective stitching, thread breaks or machine malfunctions
  • Mount sewing machine attachments like needles, threads, pattern plates or cutting blades and adjust machine guides according to approved specifications
  • Select sewing supplies like snaps, velcro and zippers in accordance with job requirements
  • Account for the quantity of materials processed
  • Accountable for measuring, cutting and attaching of all material, not limited to vinyl, fabric and binding
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time
  • Ability to complete decorative and top-stitch sewing methods
  • To have detailed time management capabilities
  • To have high organizational skills to sort and handle cut parts for joining
  • To have high mechanical ability to operate sewing machines
  • To have a high understanding of basic measurements
  • To be flexible with methods to accommodate proto-type new designs and/or changes

 

Quality Control

  • Ensuring that manufacturing processes comply with company standards and/or specifications
  • Directing objectives to maximize profitability
  • Monitor own performance - self-audit for accuracy and produce high level output

 

Safety

  • Personally accountable for preventing injury and illness to self and for protecting Company assets
    • Acceptance of this full safety responsibility, personal alertness and following plant safety rules is mandatory
  • Every injury sustained or even suspected while on the job, must be reported immediately to your direct supervisor
  • Be familiar with all chemicals used in your assigned area and understand any injury or health problem potential inherent in the use or handling of such chemicals
  • Horseplay is not permitted
  • Know the location, use and purpose of all safety equipment in your work area
  • All emergency equipment, fire doors and emergency exit routes are to be kept unobstructed and in good condition

High School Diploma / GED
