Summary/Objective

The quality manager position is a “hands-on” role that develops, implements and manages quality control systems designed to ensure continuous quality production (consistent with established standards, customer specifications and production goals). The position supervises a team of quality personnel. 

Essential Functions

  • Ensures the highest level of internal and external customer service possible.
  • Investigates (and corrects) customer issues and complaints relating to quality.
  • Supervises workers engaged in inspection and testing activities to ensure high productivity and high technical integrity.
  • Develops and analyzes statistical data and product specifications to determine standards and to establish quality and reliability expectancy of finished products.
  • Provides technical and statistical expertise to teams.
  • Formulates, documents and maintains quality control standards and on-going quality control objectives.
  • Establishes and monitors overall plant performance for quality standards.
  • Coordinates objectives with production procedures in cooperation with plant managers to maximize product reliability and minimize costs.
  • Manages Quality portion of APQP process.
  • Creates, documents and implements inspection criteria and procedures.
  • Interprets quality control philosophy to key personnel within company.
  • Provides, and oversees, inspection activity for product throughout production cycle.
  • Applies total quality management tools and approaches to analytical and reporting processes.
  • Interacts with suppliers to ensure quality of all purchased parts.
  • Creates and directs environmental test functions and applications.
  • Maintains an active role on internal continuous improvement teams.
  • Designs, develops, and implements quality control training programs.

Required Education and Experience

B.S. degree or equivalent experience/education combination.

Minimum 10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.

Certification by the American Society for Quality (ASQ) as a Certified Quality Engineer (CQE). Note: Certified Quality Manager (CQMgr) is preferred.

Expert knowledge of TS16949.

Experience with quality improvement tools and techniques (i.e., Lean, Six Sigma, 5 why’s, Fish Bone Analysis, etc.).

Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving, project management and facilitation skills.

Computer proficiency in MS Office as well as detailed knowledge of FMEA/PPAP/APQP/MSA and SPC.

Position requires strong leadership and administration skills.

Contributing member of the management team.

Minimum 10 years of experience in a Tier II Automotive Manufacturing Environment

Minimum of 3-5 years of Quality Management Systems experience.

Supervisory/management experience.
